My brother and his family recently moved to Virginia where they participated in their first foxhunt. Photos were texted my way and I found myself visually stimulated by the shapes and forms of hounds and horses layered upon each other in the grassy field. The scarlet attire of the Master of Foxhounds jumped out with such intensity against the neutral landscape of greens and autumn brown. The pureness of mere potential energy in the crisp fall air was apparent in the alertness of the hounds and vivid gestures of The Field. I grappled with creating this series as I questioned the well-being of fox and horse, but I have begun to see through painting this series, that each participant of this great chase, whether rider, horse, hound or fox are displaying the fullness of their unique and beautiful "being".
