Blue Ridge Mountains
The Blue Ridge series reveals repeated imagery of the inadvertent path. Our "second home" in Boone, NC, is where my feet tread from late August to May. My husband teaches at the university, affording us summers in Michigan with family and good friends. Living in two places is awkward for me, like a "snowbird" flocking to Florida before my golden years have been reached. But Boone is beautiful, and I feel fully alive hiking rocky mountain trails and taking in glorious summit views. We live off the grid in a tiny house we built ourselves and embrace the ever changing weather of sunshine and hail, straightline winds and morning mist. Many works in this series are based on paths I have hiked upon, or roads my husband and I bicycle along. It is a symbol of journey, fitting for my dual life balanced between North Carolina and Michigan.
